The University of Regina is an active and exciting place for kids during the summer! We offer a variety of kids day camps that give kids, ages 3 to 17, a great summer experience learning, playing, exploring and having tons of fun at the U of R!

The U of R has a lot of camps to choose from, so if your kids can’t get enough camp fun, they can try more than one camp throughout the summer. Each camps creates a different summer experience: theatre, music, science, sports, aquatics.

SUMMER SPORTS SCHOOL (Ages 4-12)

  • Children participate in a variety of sports, science, aquatic, and other physical activities in a safe, fun, and non-competitive environment. No previous experience is necessary.  All camps are held at the University of Regina main campus.  Visit here for program descriptions and dates.
  • Cougar Athletics Camps incorporate skill building with qualified instructors and having fun. There are camps to develop fundamental skills as well as those focused on skill refinement.  Athletic camps in the past have included basketball, volleyball, hockey, soccer, track and field and swimming.  VIEW THE 2012 GUIDE FOR DETAILS.
  • SWIMMING LESSONS:  Red Cross Aquatic Swim Kids Program, Levels 1-10. View the 2012 Guide for details.

EYES CAMP (EDUCATION YOUTH IN ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE)

  • EYES sparks curiosity and develops a lasting interest in science, engineering & technology. Youth entering grades 2-9 this fall can attend multiple weeks of camp this summer. We have hands-on programs developed for a variety of ages.
    • EYES Jr. is for youth entering grades 2-3 this fall.
    • EYES Camp is for youth entering grades 4-9 this fall.
    • E-Design is for youth entering grades 7-9 this fall.

CAMPS:

The Magic Toy Shop
Ages 3-5 (AM)
This half-day program takes your child on a dancing adventure through the magic toy shop. Designed to engage your child in the joy of storytelling through dance, our creative approach introduces the fundamentals of pre-ballet while nurturing the unique dancer within each child. This program will develop your child’s imagination, creativity, independence and social skills. This is an excellent opportunity to give your child an introduction to dance.

String Your Parents Along
Ages 4-7 (AM or PM), Week 1 only
This half day camp provides an excellent introduction to the violin or cello for both children and parents. Rhythmic instruments, movement and voice will be added as a fun way to learn how to identify notes, sounds and rhythms. Give your child a well-rounded introduction to playing an instrument. A parent or guardian must attend with your child.

Miniature Mozart
Ages 4-5 (AM), Ages 6-7 (PM)
This half day program gives your child an opportunity to explore the keyboard and establish a musical foundation as your child learns about the musical alphabet, patterns, posture and dynamics. Our simple and gently paced approach explores music through the keyboard, games, movement, singing, arts and crafts, and stories.

Arts Explorer
Ages 6-8
Arts Explorer draws on your child’s natural curiosity about the world around them and nurtures it to support their creative potential. Our integrated camp program stimulates imagination, spontaneity and a love of the arts with music, movement, storytelling, drama and visual arts. Explore the world of the arts!

Clay Explorer
Ages 6–9 (AM)
Want to explore the pottery wheel? Develop your beginner skills in throwing and decorating through demonstrations and practice time. Our small camp size gives your child the attention they need ensuring they learn a lot while having fun.

L’ explorateur monde des arts!
Ages 7–9  
À l’exploration du monde des arts - ce camp se déroulera totalement en français! On se servira de la curiosité naturelle de l’enfant pour développer son potentiel de créativité. Musique, mouvement, récit, jeux de rôle, théâtre et art visuel se conjuguent pour stimuler l’imagination et l’amour de l’art chez les jeunes. Découvre le monde des arts!

FiddleHeads   
Ages 7-10 (AM), Ages 11-14 (PM), Week 2 only
Get your toes tapping and your fingers flying! FiddleHeads highlights the many different styles of traditional fiddle tunes from jigs to reels to polkas to waltzes, while focusing on the rhythmic bases that make this style of music so energetic and fun. Our inspiring approach will offer a new musical experience for your child to hone the flexibility of the bow arm and the durability of the right fingers.

Glee Club
Ages 8–10
Glee Club teaches all the elements that make
up a musical theatre performance. This lively camp teaches the basics of movement, choreography, singing, acting and how it all works together to tell a story through musical theatre. Register early to be a part of a camp that has everyone buzzing!

Guitar
Ages 8–10
Guitar Camp engages the young guitarist in all aspects of guitar playing. From exploring the components of the guitar, learning to play and creating visual art to enhance the stage performance, the week is an exciting musical adventure. Our fun approach ensures your child will make lasting musical memories.

Creative Drama Studio  
Ages 8–10, all 3 weeks & 11–12, Week 3 only
Creative Drama Studio introduces young drama students to a wonderfully creative process. Dramatic techniques such as story making, character development, creative movement and vocal skills help build the play. Your child’s imagination is developed through learning how to collectively create and build their own theatrical play!

Stomp  
Ages 9-11
Time to make some noise! In Stomp, your child experiments with all sorts of percussion instruments such as drums, shakers, cowbells, triangles, cans, plastic containers and more. Stomp allows your child to explore all areas of creating rhythm. What’s more – we put it all together to create one funky piece of percussive performance. It’s so much fun, it’s crazy!

Summer Sing Along
Ages 8-12, Week 3 only
Experience fun, friends, music and learning. Develop individual vocal skills and experience the joy of singing in an ensemble. Participants are subdivided by voice range (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) and sing a variety of repertoire while working on movement activities. No prior choir experience is necessary, only a love of singing and music!

Pottery for Kids
Ages 10-14 (PM)
Pottery for Kids gives a full pottery studio experience with a small group of campers. Kids will learn to use the pottery wheel, handbuilding/sculpting techniques and glazing. They can use their imagination to create everything from crazy creatures to funky functional pieces. This focus on individual creativity ensures that no two camps are experienced exactly the same!

Improvisation
Ages 11-12, Week 2 only
Improv stretches the imagination in the art of making it up. Your child learns to let go of logical thinking and judgment to free their spontaneity and creativity. Your child will develop creativity and self-confidence through warm-up exercises, mime, story building and theatre games. Trust your instincts!

Showtime
Ages 11–13
Showtime brings a play to life beginning with a pre-written script and breathing life into it. Focusing on the role of an actor, your child learns lines, develops characters and rehearses scenes to pick up valuable tips on becoming a better actor. Our fundamental approach helps to discover more about the entire theatre process from beginning to end.
